Fines for Failing to Comply

Beginning on July 1st, 2021, once a new or renewed tenancy is signed for a Haumoana rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance tasks need to be done by the end of 90 days.

From the 1st of July in 2021, when a brand new or renewed tenancy is signed on a Haumoana rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance work must be done within 90 days.

Haumoana Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies commenced beginning on 1 July 2019 to 30 , June 20,21

  • Insulation of the underfloor and ceiling is mandatory throughout Haumoana and New Zealand rental homes where it is reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement, an Insulation Statement and an Insurance Statement should be included in any renewal, new or modified tenancy agreement.
  • Landlords and property managers must keep records of their the conformance to each Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will be applicable during the tenure of their rental properties.

From July 1st 2021

  • Property managers and private landlords are required to make sure that their rental properties are in compliance with the Healthy Homes Standards within 90 days of a newly renewed, extended or changed lease.
  • All the boarding homes (except Kainga Ora and Community Housing Providers with registered for boarding house tenancies) must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date the tenancy was started.

From July 1st 2023

  • All homes which are rented to Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and Community Housing Providers that are registered must meet the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date the tenancy was started.

From July 1st 2024

  • All rentals homes must be in compliance with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the time of the first day of tenancy.
